Default Received a Ticket on My Windscreen for Expired Tabs

My question involves vehicle registration or title in the state of: Washington

I parked my car yesterday and got back to find a $20 ticket for expired tabs. I had actually purchased the tabs over a month before they expired but must have spaced on putting them on the car.

Does anyone know if this ticket impact my driving record and insurance, or have any idea what the outcome would be if I went to court with proof that I purchased the tabs way before they were expired?

Part of me thinks that because I had them I should fight it, but then, maybe it is my own fault because they were not on the car.

I have no problem paying the ticket if it will not impact my insurance - it seems like a bigger waste of both my time and the cities if I contest it.

    Thanks

Something is wrong. The total penalty in WA State for driving with expired tabs is $124 -- if it's less than two months -- or $216 -- if it's over 2 months. Are you sure it's not just a parking ticket? What jurisdiction are you in and what is the statute of the infraction?

The ticket is a City of Bellingham Parking Infraction and the violation states "expired license 11.33.060.A.34." It was issued by a parking attendant while I was parked (not driving).

OK, here's my "guess". Bellingham ordinance 11.33.060 is a parking violation. You received a parking ticket -- pay it. The officer ran your plates (which were expired) and found out that the car is properly registered. The law states that the vehicle must have current registration, but there is no real penalty for failure to display the current sticker. Seeing that, they left you a courtesy notice, letting you know that you should get "fix" the tabs.

I bought a car some years ago, which I knew had a current registration. However, I got pulled over TWICE -- ON THE SAME DAY -- for an expired sticker. The guy I bought it from simply "forgot" to put the stickers on the plates. The officers checked to make sure I was, indeed, current and let me go. They warned me that I would continue to be pulled over EVERY time an officer spotted the expired sticker. I got new ones the next day.

Thanks for the help. Do parking violations go on dirving records? Should I expect my insurance to go up?
