    Default $25 Theft

My question involves criminal law for the state of: California

so i was caught shoplifting at the local wal-mart. i took a single dvd that cost 25 dollars and was sent to county jail for a night until they released me in the morning with a court date. this is my first offence and i have never broke the law before. i am also age 18 and a good kid.

any thoughts on best/worst case scenarios or what is likely to happen to me?

    thanks!

Since this is your first offense, you may be eligible for a diversion program. Either consult with a private attorney to sort out your options prior to court, or if you cannot afford private counsel, show up for court, plead Not Guilty, and ask for a Public Defender.

You may end up with a Civil Demand in addition to fines, restitution, and possibly probation.
