Default Filing for SSI if Separated

My question involves child support in the State of: Michigan

(I hope this is the appropriate place to ask this question)

My son is 10 years old and diagnosed with autism. I wish to apply for SSI for him. I tried to apply a few years ago, but my husband made too much for my son to qualify.

My husband and I are currently separated however (I am living with my parents at present), and I would like to try to apply again. We have not filed for separation or divorce. He does not give me any child support, and I am unemployed.

Will they still need to factor in my husband's income?

If you are not living with him, they will not factor in his income.

HOWEVER - they will factor in the incomes of the persons in your current household. To qualify as living "on your own", you need to be paying rent and board.

There is an eligibility tool here (since you're planning to apply for your son, you'll need to fill it out as pertains to him), and a resource page here.
