    Default Shoplifting in California

I was stopped from shoplifting last week, the item was $5. I got a letter fasking me to pay civil demand damages as per cpc 490.5 (c), which is $400. My question is, will this be in my social security record and in applications for the question about convicted felony what should i put?
p.s. this is my first ond last time, im very ashamed of myself and I want to know if my life is over?

    State: California

If you pay the civil demand in full and on time, they will not press charges and there will be no criminal record (unless you were arrested and are facing a court date because of this.)

Your name will be enterd into a retail database so any chance of you working in the retail industry is pretty much history.

Were the Police called when you were stopped? Did the arresting party say they were pressing charges? Nothing in your post suggest criminal charges filed

Only if you don't pay the civil demand. At that point, the store will file charges against you.

As of now, there is no criminal record of your 'activities'
