Default Down Payment Increased After I Signed Papers

My question involves a consumer law issue in the State of: California
I went to a dealership and completed all paperwork for a used car, we agreed on a $$ amount for the down payment etc., and I drove the car home.
A week later the dealership called me and said that they need another $1,000 for the down payment. I didn't have it and gave the car back to them. Did I have any rights in that situation?

You had whatever rights were described in your contract.

If the issue was a contingency in your contract that the transaction would be void if you did not secure financing, and the problem was that no lender would finance the vehicle without a larger down payment, then this would appear consistent with your contract. But we don't know the details, so all we can do is guess.
