I'm sorry for what I did. I regret it.
Now I am just concerned what will happen.
This will be to the point.

I assaulted a kid with open hand (smack) and hit the side of his face twice causing his face to show redness (he took photos) and there was 1 witness. This occured on the university campus and I was arrested and released after making good with the police officer. He gave me a summons to appear in court for 1st degree misdemeanor assault 2903.13A in Columbus, OH.

What will be my probable punishment? I am terribly afraid of going to jail, and ruining my life (I am applying to Dental School in one year.) I definitely do not want to serve any time in jail and having a criminal record for life is 2nd on the list that I want to avoid.

I know that a 1st degree misdemeanor has a maximum punishment of 6 months in jail and a fine of up to $1000. But...
What is the PROBABLE (when I say probable, I mean MOST LIKELY) outcome of my punishment?

I spoke to an assault lawyer and he said it would cost $1500 for him to appear with me in court. He also suggested that free lawyers that the court appoints for you may be just as good. I would like some advice on this as well. I do not want to spend $1500 if its just the same as a free lawyer.

Please give me some input, advice, recommendations.
I will greatly appreciate it.

Thank you
