Unhappy Giving False Name and ID to a Police Officer

I was recently pulled over. When the officer approached he asked if I was the owner of the car. I asked why and he replied with the owner of the car has a warrant out for his arrest. I was the owner of the car but I said no I am his brother because I had no idea why I would have a warrant out for my arrest. They later said they didnt believe me and took me to jail under my name and arrested me for fraud impersonation giving a false id to an officer. I gave the fake name because I was scared and wanted to talk to my lawyer first why I would have a warrant. I do have 3 charges before this. Tresspassing which was dropped and a fake id charge that I have not gone to court yet for and a misdemeanor marijuana charge that I am still in court with. I later found out that someone used my name and got arrested under my name and skipped out on going to court which led to a warrant for me. Can I beat this charge or does this mean time for me? Im a student at the university of central florida studying to be a doctor. I will be applying to medical schools this year and I know I have made wrong choices but I have been getting my life together until this latest incident. Will I be able to get off without jail time?

Maybe. You really need to have a talk with your attorney.

You ALSO need to have a talk with your academic advisor about your criminal record. It stands between you and medical school - the very best schools are quite selective and don't look kindly on criminals in their halls.

Sounds like a competent lawyer will be able to fix you up. I wouldn't worry about jail, worry about getting charges dropped. When you turn yourself in (on a warrant) a bail amount has already been set. You bring the bail money with you and they release you in just a few hours. If you try to do this without a lawyer they will tag you with some seemingly sweet plea deal that will end up haunting you for the rest of your life. So start saving those quarters.

ya i have the money but someone stole my id and used it as me and got arrested under my name and everything. my lawyer wants to higher a private detective to find out the kids name that took my id. he said im not to worry about jail time but im still weezy about everything. like this is my life we are talking about and it has been my life long dream to become a doctor. I have the grades but I think my childish mistakes might hold me back from getting to my goal. money isnt a problem I have one of the best lawyers in orlando working on my case but I just dont know the outcome.
