Question Month to Month Lease in Philadelphia - When Do I Give Notice That I'm Moving

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Pennsylvania

Hello all, I'm in Philadelphia, PA. I am on a month-to-month lease, I think. I have not signed anything that says I'm on a month-to -month. The lease I had when I first moved in has expired years ago and my landlord never gave me a new lease. I have found somewhere else I'd like to live. Do I have to give my landlord a full 30 days notice before I move out? What would happen if I gave him shorter notice? When I moved in, I paid 1st mth, last mth, and security.

I thank all who respond in advance- I need all the help I can get regarding this issue

You need to give him 30 days notice (and pay for those 30 days), but you can move any time during the notice period.

Yes you give a full rental period notice in this case 30 days if your month to month

Okay, thank you both for responding so quickly!!

I have one more question: My rent is due on the 1st of each month. My lease has expired, so this is no longer in writing- but I have been paying this way for the past 2 years. Do I have to wait until the end of this month/beginning of next month to tell my landlord that I want to move or can I let him know tomorrow, for example, and then move out 30 days from tomorrow?

When you give notice the 30 day period begins.
