My question involves criminal law for the state of: Iowa

On April 15th, 2008, I was charged with fifth degree theft for stealing an article of clothing from a store worth under $200. About a week ago, my "act before thinking" mind frame came about and I took $175 dollars worth of gift cards from my non-profit job. For about a week I have been waiting for the police to gather there evidence (fingerprinting on the stack of gift cards) and be put on trial. Since I was already charged with fifth degree theft, is there any way for the court to put me on trial and if they can, what would I be charged with?
