    Default Cross State Jurisdiction

My question involves divorce in the State of: Illinois/Pennsylvania

My soon to be ex said he filed for divorce in IL, but I've not seen any papers yet. I'm not an IL resident, and I'm back home in PA. He is an IL resident, though. Can I file for divorce on my own from PA, or has he beaten me to the punch, so to speak? And what do I do if I never see these papers?

You lived together as man and wife in Pennsylvania? You separated how long ago? Are there any marital assets to divide, or custody issues?

No, I've lived in PA while he was deployed; he came back and promptly divorced me. We separated early last month, and I was allowed to keep most of my clothes, some of my books, and a few household items, so no assets to divide. He is trying to shunt off half his credit card debt onto me. And there are no custody issues. My concern is if I never get these papers, what are my options?

If he has filed for divorce, and you know he has filed for divorce, you can get copies of any documents in the court file directly from the court, although they'll charge a copying fee.

You and your husband never lived together?
