My question involves criminal law for the state of: California
Hello! I have an issue where my son took his car to a friend who supposedly does car repairs to be worked on. The "friend" did more damage than anything, but Im chalking that up to a lesson learned for my son. My concern is, my son took several tools over there to work on the car and now the "friend" is has locked them tools in his garage and is refusing to return them. The "friend" is over 18 and lives with several others in a house they rent from his mom, so I cant just talk to the parents. Last time my son went over there the sister answered the door and said she could not give my son the tools because they were in the guys room, and he paid rent so she couldnt go in his room. Im tired of all the run around so I intend to go over there, ring the doorbell and ask him/them to give me the tools as they are mine, however if he will not return them (which is likely), or one of the roomates will not give them to me, can I call the police and report them stolen and let whomever anwsers the door know that they are in possesion of stolen property and I am going to call the police? I believe that I can, however I just want to make sure beforehand.
