    Default 6 Months Under B1/B2

    Hi!
    My situation is the following:
my boyfriend is going to work for one semester in an university with a J1 visa. I want to go with him and stay with him all those months, but, because we are not married, I will enter with my B1/B2 visa. I need to stay 4 months, but everytime that my family, friends, and myself -all with the same nationality- have entered have only received 90 days in the i-94.
I have reading that everybody receives 6 months, but I can only think it depends also on the nationality.
Do you think that is possible to ask to the officer that I want to stay more than the average 90 days?
I won't work during my stay, my boyfriend will cover my expenses, and I will return to my work at home after those 4 months.
Do you think that what I want to do is possible?

    Thanks

What need do you plan to demonstrate to the immigration officer to justify your stay? (Your "need" to be with your boyfriend isn't enough.) If you have no need, and can document no need, you'll have to hope that the immigration officer gives you six months and not three.

what do you mean by "need"? when you enter as a visitor you don't a need, but a wish. I don't need to spend vacations in disneyland or new york, but I would like to do it, and I prove that I CAN do it.
In this case, I don't have a "need", but it is something that I would like to do, and I CAN do, because I have the money, so I don't get the meaning of "need".
With the exception of medical travels, I don't see that anyone else "needs" to go to the states.

If you want to stay for leisure travel, consider reentering as a non-business tourist.
