My question involves employment and labor law for the state of: Washington
2 weeks ago I called out for a 12 hour shift. When i got my last paycheck I was only given 10 hours of sick pay for the day i called off. I know that I have more than enough sick time to cover it.
Another guy in Security took a vacation day for an 8 hour shift and was only given 6 hours of vacation time.
the HR manager dodges questions from us about the missing time. When our manager asked about it he was told that since Security is the only department authorized to work 40 hours a week (every other department only gets 38) we would only be paid for 38 hours a week if we took vacation or sick leave.
My question is whether or not it's even LEGAL to do that since we are required to work 40 hours a week.
Yes, we both had the vacation and sick time to cover the aforementioned shifts
