Question Owner's Liability for Drug Use by a Tenant / Relative

My question involves a roommate in the State of: California.
My mother is the owner of the home I live in. My adult son lives there too and I know for a fact is using drugs in his room. If he is busted, will my mother, the homeowner, have any legal action taken against her??

Yes, its very possible. How much troube depends on how much trouble your son gets himself in. Is he selling/dealing? or just recreational use of weed? It also depends on the drug. Controlled narcotic? Crack/cocaine?

i don't know for sure what he is using. He seems to be brewing a tea all of the time that may be an opiate. He is not selling/dealing any drugs from the home. He is a loner, nobody goes into his room but him. No low-lifes hanging out at the house, or friends for that matter.

If you don't know for sure what he's using then how do you know that he's not just brewing tea to drink?
He is not selling/dealing any drugs from the home
So he's capable of manufacturing drugs there but not capable of selling them out of the house? Do you really expect anyone to believe that? And btw, if you make a big batch of drugs...your a drug dealer trust me.

He is a loner, nobody goes into his room but him. No low-lifes hanging out at the house, or friends for that matter.
So let me see if I got this straight...
You know he does drugs but not sure what but you know that it is brewed. Only he knows bc no one goes in his room and you know he's not dealing bc there are no "low-lifes" hanging out at the house.
Drug addicts come in all shapes and sizes. They don't get there bc they had a dream to become a drug addict. They also don't have to "look" like a low life to be one.

To answer your question...ANY home owner should be aware of what goes on under their own roof. IF this person is manufacturing drugs out of this house, the home owner is likely to be in MORE trouble than just selling. Tell your mother to figure out what hes doing and make sure its legal.
