    Default Charged or Not

My question involves criminal law for the state of: IL

How do you know if you have been charged and have a criminal record?

    Shoplifted around $50 stuff.

I was arrested and brought to the station, no finger prints or anything, just took me ID and wrote information down, then my parents took me home. I never received a court date or anything, just a civil demand(just paid it). So when jobs do a background check on me as a first offender, does my name show up as a misdemeanor? Do I even have a misdemeanor?

    Default Re: Charged or Not

How long ago was did this happen? It sounds like you were given a break and criminal charges were not pressed. Its hard to say bc sometimes it takes a few to get a court summons. Ask your parents. The place you stole from has until the statue of limitations runs up to charge you which can vary. If you were not charged criminally, then you have no record.
