    Default IRS and Disability Garnishment

My soon to be ex-husband has not supplied the IRS with a change of address. He left the marriage back in 2004 and has been evading the IRS. In turn, because the IRS does not have his address they are now coming after me. My disability check was garnished $200.00 because of a debt he owed. I was totally blindsided.

My disability check is my sole income and I am now short on rent and need to scramble about for food and the rest of the rent money.

My question is: How can I protect myself from any further garnishments because of his lack of responsibility? I don't know how many more bills will be coming my way.

I certainly hope this makes sense. Now I have the awful task of telling my landlady why I don't have the full rent this month.

    Thank you.
