My question involves name change laws in the State of: Florida. I assumed my stepfather's name at the age of 10 and have used it since. I am 58 and trying to draw retirement but am unable to prove who I am as I have no birth certificate in my name. Social Security has the link but that is not good enough for the Florida State Retirement System. Do I have to stand before a judge and officially change my name to that which I have been using for the past 48 years? Appreciate any help!
