My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Indiana
Hi I am 18 and live with my father in Indiana. I'm currently a freshman in college and I am not employed, but all my dad really provides for me is a place to live. A friend of mine also lives with us(she is like a mom to me). She pays for pretty much everything I need. My schooling also is free so he doesn't pay for that. I wish to move out along with my friend and get a place with her. My dad is one of those dads who doesn't want me to grow up and when I told him I wanted to move out this past summer he said he was going to call the prosecutor on me because when him and my mom divorced last month the judge said I have to be emancipated. I asked my mom and a bunch of friends and they said I didn't have to be emancipated bc I'm eighteen and considered an adult. I really want to move out bc I can't stand to be at home any longer.
So basically I'm confused with this whole emancipation thing bc I thought that once I turned 18 I could move out. I don't have a job, but its not like my dad provides for me anyways. I really want out!! Do I have to be emancipated although I'm 18?
