Default Do I Have Rights As a Subtenant

My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Connecticut

I am renting a room in a house from a guy I found on craigslist. He has a lease with the actual landlord . I dont have a contract or anything with him. He is trying to raise my rent . Do I have any rights in the matter? I really want to just get out of here and get my deposit back!

I owe this months rent tommorow but he raised it and just told me today!!!

    What should i do!

    Thanks so much!

Do you have the right to live forever in the same place with no rent increase from the day you moved in? Obviously not.

Although states typically require a full rental period's notice for a rent increase, it does not appear that Connecticut follows the standard rule.
If you DO NOT have a WRITTEN LEASE but pay an agreed amount of rent each month, the law says that you have a month-to-month ORAL LEASE. This means that your lease runs out at the end of each month and that a new lease starts at the beginning of the next month. Your landlord may request a higher rent each month.
(Apparently, under Connecticut law, for there to be a notice requirement you must have an actual agreement for the notice period - see this summary of landlord-tenant rights.) This document indicates that if your town has a fair rent commission you can see if they can assist. Otherwise, if you don't like the increase, you need to give your landlord notice of your intention to vacate and start looking for a new place to live.
