My question involves criminal law for the state of: Indiana.
Earlier this year, around March or April, I was apprehended outside of Macy's. I had some bright idea to steal a shirt that cost less than $30. I immediately surrendered the merchandise undamaged, but I still went to the LP room where they wrote up the standard report and told me I may be receiving a civil demand. They never gave me a straight up answer about if I would get one for sure or not, but they said I would receive it within 45 days. No police were involved, but they did tell me I am banned from the store for life... In August I moved to a different address than what they have on file. I still had not received anything in the mail at that time, and I have made a visit to my old house to see if they got any of our mail. They say they have not.
I am wondering is it possible Macy's chose to overlook this case? I know there is a statue of limitations, but are they known to charge people last minute? What would happen if the house had received my mail but told me there was not any? Any insight into this matter would be helpful. Thank you.
