Unhappy Specifics Questions on Virginia Emancipation

My question involves emancipation laws for the State of: Virginia

I'm, 16 yrs old. I've gone through a whole lot with my parents including, running away twice, attemted suicide, my dad getting arrested for hitting my brother, and other things between us as well. I want to get emancipated and have read the little law code thing but i have some problems & facts:

    - i now live w/ my parents again
    - i work a part-time job (making avg $250 a paycheck every two weeks)
    - i am graduuating highschool a yr early to get away from this madnesss
-when i grad i will only be 17 so thats a whole other yr b4 i turn 18....so i really need this emancipation..-i stilll want to attended college (is this going to realistically possible?)

i understand that i need to have seperate living arrangments from my parents, but like i said, am not 18 and cannot take out an apt in my name.. shld i get my 19 yr old boyfriend to do so? I also only have a parttime job since becuz i am graduating early, my workload at school is kindof heavy.... wat do you guys reccomend i do to fix these problems...? i really really really need assistance...

I recommend that you give up any thoughts of emancipation. (No, having your 19 year old boyfriend rent an apartment for you does not count as being self-sufficient.)

$250 every two weeks is not even remotely enough to support yourself on. You cannot pay rent, utilitities, clothing, food, transportation, medical care, school fees and activities, internet connection, shampoo, shoes, and all the other incidentals of life on $125 a week. It can't be done.

Add the fact that you have a history of running away and attempted suicide to the fact that you cannot support yourself while still in school, and you are not a candidate for emancipation. No judge would even consider emancipating you with that history. Even if you COULD support yourself, your past history would eliminate you as a candidate. Emancipation is extremely rare and the very, very small minority who achieve it have shown a history of ultimately mature behavior. The first time you attempted to run away you made it a given that you would never be emancipated by any action but achieving the age of 18.

When you graduate, you can work full time. It won't emancipate you but it will get you out of the house more often. Get involved in community activies. Do some volunteer work. It won't hurt to have these things on your college applications even if they don't get you emancipated. The year will pass before you know it.

    Good luck!
