Not entirely true.. if there are any issues relating to the 18-year-old's capacity (e.g. serious developmental delays, physical incapacity, etc.) and a demonstrated ability of one parent being able to better serve the young adult's needs, it's likely that such a choice would be restricted if the son/daughter wanted to live with the less capable parent.
