My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: California

I have been working for this company for less than a year. When I was interviewing I told the COO (Who was doing the hiring) that I wanted a stable environment and that I could count on the job for long term. She assured me that this was the right company for that and that she wouldn't have her sister, cousin and son working there if it wasn't stable. She hired me and I started the 4 days later on a Monday.

8 weeks after starting the position (working with her son, who I found out didn't really work...he watched movies all day!!) I found out that I was pregnant. I didn't want the company thinking that I was hiding this when they hired me, so I told them the same day that I found out. They were not happy for me at all and it was made very clear that it was not appreciated. I explained to them that I want to work up until the day that my doctor says no more. Well the doctor said that he wasn't comfortable with me working past the 31st of Oct. This is an older building with steep stairs and no elevator.

I turned in my maternity leave packet with all the documents that the company requested. Then within 2 weeks, my co worker (the bosses son) gets transferred out of the department to a newly created position, and I get called into HR. When I go in they tell me that they are closing down my department and that I will no longer have a position with the company and that this will take effect when the day that I go on my maternity leave. Since I am the ONLY one being laid off, everyone else has been moved to a different department, and I am the only one that is pregnant (9months now) can they do this? Isn't there anything that protects a person from this? I'm not sure if this is discrimination or breech of contract or hiring in bad faith...anything? This is really frustrating considering I know that there are positions that are available that I am over qualified for that I have asked about and I have gotten no response.
