My question involves criminal law for the state of: Maryland
If I was caught shoplifting in Lord and Taylors and the amount taken was less than $500. They gave me a civil demand letter which they had me sign saying that they did not intend to press criminal charges and I agreed to pay them a certain amount. I had taken things from Nordstroms, Jcrew and Gap and the Loss Prevention officer said he would return the items to those stores. I signed nothing regarding those items. Do those stores have the ability to prosecute me? Is it likely that they will prosecute me? This is my first offense, and I have a clean record otherwise. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
