Default Can Parents Limit Who Teenagers Can Date?

I don't really know how to navigate this site very well , but I need help. My 16 year old daughter is running off from the house to see a 23 year old man. We do our best to keep track of her, but this man will drive by the house and pick her up at all hours and the police here in Oklahoma state there is nothing they can do to stop him from coming to my house and picking up my daughter without my permission. Is he violating any Oklahoma law?

depends on what he's doing with her. Get a restraining order, and get better control over dd, or this will happen again with someone else.

    Good luck.

Find a way quickly to keep your daughter in your house. Unless you can prove they are having sex, you can not really file charges. However, i would imagine you could investigate filing deliquency charges on your daughter for "running" away and filing aiding charges on the 23 year old.

    COMMONWEALTH vs. JULIO SANTOS
    April 7, 1999. - August 26, 1999

"[I]n order to prove the defendant guilty, the Commonwealth must prove two things beyond a reasonable doubt. First, that a child who was at least 7 years of age and less than 17 years of age committed a delinquent act or acts being one that violates the law of the Commonwealth, a city ordinance or a town bylaw. And secondly, the Commonwealth must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant caused that child's behavior, or brought it about, or helped it along, or encouraged or contributed to it or acted in a way that tended to cause it or to bring it about."

I was told by the Police, the DA's office, the Office of Juvenile Affairs, and everyone else that I could find to talk to, that in Oklahoma the age of consent is 16, so sex does not matter and she has admitted that they have had sex. I was also told that if my daughter does not want a protective order the judge will most likely not file one. It sickens me that if he were to take naked pictures of her it would be child pornography but he can have sex with her with no consequences. Thank You all for your assistance.

That's the unfortunate downside to children: they start making decisions despite our wishes.

Here's the low down: if the police, prosecuting authority and juvenile authorities are unwilling to do anything, there's not a lot you can do. Except make her life miserable.

Take away her phone, any money, tv, and everything else. This 23 year old might well quickly tire of being her sugar daddy.

A restraining order isn't likely to happen. A judge is unlikely to restrain a third party from your daughter unless she wants it and the guy is harming her in someway.

That you don't like him doesn't amount to a great deal in court. But you can always try.

Also, you can tell him not to call your house. You do have that kind of control as you're generally free to prevent people from coming onto your property or phoning you against your wishes. Remember, the home phone is your phone and continued, unwanted calls to it from him might well give you cause to get your own no contact order or something.
