Default Shoplifting Showing Up on Background Checks

My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Massachusetts

In august of this year, I was caught shoplifting a $10 item by supermarket security. I was told to sign a letter to never trespass the property again and also paid a $150 fine. However, it now appears on my background check when I apply for work. Can I get rid of it?

What you paid was a civil demand. If there was no police involvement (arrest, reporte, etc.) or charges filed, I'm very suprised it's showing up. Could this possibly be from another incident? Honestly, the only way a criminal charge shows if there was an arrest and/or a conviction.
