    Default Florida Step Parent Adoption

My question involves adoption law for the State of: Florida

I have a 6 yr old daughter who does not know her biological father at all. He has not seen her since she was approx. 3 months old. He has never pd child support or provided any kind of financial assistance. He is listed on the Birth Cert. and she was given his name at birth. I legally changed her name when she was approx. 1 1/2 yrs old after he never tried to make contact following her 1st birthday. I was told he moved out of the state but am not really sure where he is. My husband and I were recently married and he wants to legally adopt our daughter. He has been in the picture since shortly before she turned 2 and became "Daddy" at her request after she turned 3 yrs old.
What needs to be done in order for a smooth legal adoption in the state of Florida?? Any help is appreciated.

You should get a consult with an adoption attorney. You can get a 30 minute consult for around $25 by calling the Florida Bar Lawyer Refferal Service at 1-800-342-8011.

You can read the Florida statutes on adoption in chapter 63 at www.flsenate.gov/STATUTES
