My question involves guardianship in the State of: New York
I became the court appointed guardian of a 16 year old last year. Now he's 17, about to be 18. His father has full parental rights, but just wasn't able to take him in from the family who had him last (Long complicated story that doesn't really matter here).
Due to certain issues, his father and I decided that the teen could move in with the cousin of the family who raised him in North Carolina, and I was wondering, what do I need to do in order to give up my guardianship, and let his dad be the solo one in charge of him.
I will go to the courts, and get consul there... but if I need a notarized letter from the father saying I'm no longer to be DJ's guardian, I'd like to get that before going to the court! Same for any other paperwork I might need. That way- hopefully, it could be done in one day!
