I live in Canada (Alberta).
I have a friend who has been with a crack addict for the last 12 years of his life (since he was 16) The last 2 years off and on. They are not married. They have 2 kids together (3 and 4 year old little girls). She has 4 kids in total, none of which she has custody of.
She has been a crack cocaine addict for 16 years. She has been to rehab about 3 times but that has not helped.
2 years ago they were living together and they had child welfare called on them by someone and to make a long story short they had their girls taken away from them and put into a home. They got back together a while later and the social workers found out again that they were living together and took his kids from him once again and they were put in a home. They finally told him that if he doesnt leave her for good then he will have his kids taken from him for good, this was his last chance. He then left her and took the kids and has been raising them by himself for the last 10 months. He now has full custody of his kids, and she has no visitation rights.
He was doing great until just a month ago his ex girlfriend comes back into his life and says that she is pregnant with his child!! Everything went down hill from then.. now he is back with her again. The kids are in danger, the baby she's carrying is in danger and he really needs to leave her for good and move on. The last child she had a year ago had complications due to her drug use (he was given up for adoption).
Well the main issue here is the kids. I have decided I need to call child welfare to investigate the situation. I dont know if she is actually living with him but I know she is there a lot, especially the last 3 weeks. It would be great if they made them take random drug tests again like they did the last time. Also he has been back on marijuana the last 3 months and he smokes it every day. He also has 2 roommates that smoke marijuana every day I think they do other drugs as well but I am not 100% sure.
Do I have a right to call and report this problem?
1. If so what are the most important things that I should tell them when I call?
2. What if she claims that she is not living there but is there everyday?
3. Do they have to actually catch them doing the drugs in their home or are the drug tests basically the same thing?
4. Will their roommates be drug tested as well?
