My question involves criminal law for the state of: Illinois
So yesterday i went into Fry's Electronics in Downers Grove, IL. I live in new lenox, IL. I put a $159.99 hard drive in my coat pocket. i was in there for awhile so I'm guessing an LP tipped off the place. i went to the register and bought something so it wouldn't seem suspicious. I left the store and was immediately stopped by security, cuffed, and put in the holding room. so the cops showed up and took me to the station and got prints, mugshot and all. i was charged with retail theft and a fine of $105 for the act and police holding. Cop put me down for a village charge instead of a state charge. i have a court date set. what should i do in court as in what should i plead? what is the worst that can happen. (I'm 17yrs old by the way, and i can be tried as an adult at that age in IL) i also heard from the cop that apparently Fry's sues all shoplifters. i really hope that doesn't happen but if anyone can help me out it would be very much appreciated. 1st arrest, clean record.
