My question involves labor and employment law for the state of: Texas
I have worked for my company for 3 years. Background checks, etc were conducted, turned out ok. I have transferred to another department within the company. They are required to run new background checks, drivers license checks since I transferred. My background is clean. I have no suspensions, no drivers record. Please note a drivers license check was not required originally.
My bosses's approaches me and said that i cannot work here due to not having a drivers license, just a learners permit due to company liability. This was not stated in my offer letter or the job description as a requirement however there is "at will" clause.
I was "forced" to sign a letter stating that I shall not drive to work. In that agreement, I am given 45 days to obtain my drivers license. They have stated that 45 days I do not receive my license, I am fired.
Can they fire me for not having a drivers license when there is zero travel for a work position? ALSO I carpool with another coworker this whole time.
Help!
