Default Scratches on Kid, Daycare Worker, CPS Called

My question involves child abuse or neglect in the State of: nebraksa

okay so i worked in a daycare for 2 months. oneday u just get fired, no questions fired. i get my life back together, finally get a job.
Six to seven weeks later i get a call from cps saying a child has scratches on him, and they have to "talk" to me. From what she made it sound, it sounds like they were investigating me, why did it take so long?
i set up for a interview with her, then after talking to my stepdad and laywer they told me do not talk to them without a lawyer, so then i canceled this morning and told the girl i do not wish to speak to her. what is going on? i am completely innocent and have no reason why they would think i would do that. if they think for some reason i would, what is going to happen to me? i do not know where the sratches are,or the nature of them, it was like almos 2 months ago.. how can i be expected to remeber every move? Will i go to jail for a couple scratches, im really scared, becuase ive never been in hard trouble like this. I have a 2 yr old, is this going to hurt her? if for some reason they think i did something what charge will i get? jail time for scratches? a fine?

If they planned on arresting you they would not make an appointment. You're already out ahead of the pack since you have counsel. You know what this is about but we don't.

I think most people's first thought would be "One of the children must have been abused and they want to interview me to see if I know anything."

They probably just want to interview you to see if you know anything that has been going on in the daycare. Just answer all questions truthfully and things should be fine.

Tell them to put their requests/questions in writing. Then respond via letter. don't go to an interview, its too open-ended. And have your attorney review any correspondence before you send it. I'm no one to give advice, I'm not an attorney, this is just based on my own experiences. Also, you don not have to respond to any requests for information unless they get a court order of subpeona.

Probably right now they're just fishing but don't become their catch!
