Seizing Fake ID

I work at a bar where we have been having problems with minors coming in and getting drinks. We believe that they are getting in with Fake ID's. I am getting myself further educated about spotting fake ID's and the one thing that I want to know, Is it legal in the State of Michigan to take a Fake Id from somebody with means to destroy or turn into the police? thank you

I am not aware of any authority under Michigan law whereby a bar could seize a fake ID. It's a bit murky, as it is unlikely that any minor would go to the police and make a complaint that their fake id was taken at a bar, although stranger things have happened. The biggest danger would be that you would seize a real ID by mistake.

The better approach would be to invest in ID scanning equipment, which provides automatic age verification from official ID. The Michigan Liquor Control Commission offers some information on this technology.
