My question involves criminal law for the state of: New York
Please help me on this, two years ago while I was a stupid Freshmen in college, I received a letter with information on credit card # on someone else's name.
I was able to use the credit card and buy some computer games with it. Later it was found out and I decide to go talk to the county officer on my own. He charged me a misdemeanor and I must pay back those money I spend. Because I was poor, I couldn't pay those fines and didn't want to face the misdemeanor charge. I ran to another state to continue my education. He later faxed me a copy of my arrest warrant and I ignored (out of fear). Now, two year later, I want to focus on my Mechanical Engineering Career, and I want to know if this charge is going to effect my employment opportunity in this professional field. I have worked for enough money and I believe I can pay back the amount that I spend on those games (~$1000).
I just need to know what will I be facing after running away from the warrant and a misdemeanor charge for 2 years?
Will it affect my Mechanical Engineering employment opportunity if I decided not to face the charge?
If I faced the charge, will it still affect my employment opportunity?
If I have to face my charge, do I have to go back to the state that I was charged in?
Please help me on this, I never have trouble with law before and I don't think I ever will do this kind of mistake again. It is a biggest regret of my life. And I really need an answer. Please help.
I live in another state.
