My question involves landlord-tenant law in the State of: Minnesota
My wife and I have been renting the same duplex for a little over a year. At the beginning of this month (Sept), the property changed hands. The new landlord immediately raised the rent, forcing the other tenant to find a new place very quickly. We can barely afford the new rent the way it is. I was wondering if there is a law that states that the new landlord has to give a few months notice before raising rent when he buys the property, in order to give the tenants time to find another place to live? We are on a month-to-month agreement, as we are hoping to buy a house of our own very soon. If there is a law concerning this, I would very much like to know. I'm not afraid to tell the new landlord about it.
