Default Anyone Try Bird's Nest Visitation?

My question involves a child custody case from the State of: La

I'm thinking of proposing a visitation schedule modeled around the "bird's nest" model. The father lives 1000 miles from me, and I have a friend that I can stay with when my ex comes down to visit the baby. Has anyone known this arrangement to work and the courts to accept it? At least for a little while?

In one variation, the parties maintain three homes - his, hers, and the kids'. This is rarely done as it is very expensive.

In the variation you're talking about, one ex- has to be comfortable with the other ex- staying in his or her home, and the other ex- has to be comfortable staying there. Also, the question is raised, is this about the child's welfare or controlling the ex? If you and your ex agree to this, that's your right. But if your ex- opposes it, the court will want to know why this is option would be that much better than a standard visitation order.

I was going to propose this as a temporary arrangement only because the child is an infant and has only met her father 3 times in her life. I actually thought it would be easier for her to become accustomed to him in her own familar environment. I don't think it's about control, it's more because of her age. If she wasn't so young or if she knew him better and didn't have to fly on a plane to get to him, then I would be agreeable to a standard visitation. She has just turned 7 months old. Do you think that this is about control? I was willing to leave of course for the time he was there, and wasn't planning on dictating how he did anything in the house, I just want my baby to get to know him in a familiar place so that she could have more time with him.

I forgot to mention that the goal is to gradually implement a standard schedule for parents seperated by distance. Her father is military and is 1000 miles from us. He hasn't been very active in her life, so I thought this would be the best way for her.

What we think about your motivation doesn't matter; what matters is what the father argues in response to your proposal, and what the court infers from it.

Good point. His proposal is that we do one month with him, one month with me, with the baby flying back and forth every month, which to me is just crazy.
