Default Caught shoplifting, cited for trespassing

Okay boys and girls, I messed up real bad.

You see, I ( a 15 year old male) was at a local Dillards, and was caught attempting to steal 40 dollar t-shirt. Now, they called the police, he came in, talked to us, and whatnot. I am banned from Dillards permentantly, and banned from the mall for a year.

Now, this is my question! The officer gave me a CITATION that is checkmarked WARNING and a little ways down, it is also checkmarked for TRESPASSING. It seems to be a traffic citation.

Now, is this warning me to stay out of Dillards? Or is this my warning for shoplifting? And they only gave me the warning citation, and a piece of paper saying I would stay out of Dillards. They said I'd have to compensate for the objects. I'd really appreciate any knowledge you have to share.

And if it is warning me to keep out of Dillards, what can I expect for stealing the thing I had? What can I expect to have to pay and do from this situation?

I am in utter embarassment, I can't believe what I have done.

It sounds like you were trespassed, the paper is your notice. I'm guessing the wording 'warning' is just that, you've been warned and issued a trespass notice. I could be wrong but if it doesn't have a court date, that's the end of it. If you voilate that warning, you're toast.

What about Dillards? They have my home address, I believe.

Can I expect any kind of punishment from them? any fees?

And as I said before, the only papers I got were the WARNING FOR TRESPASSING and a paper telling me I CAN'T GO INTO DILLARDS.

Does this mean this ordeal is over with?

Thank you for your time, and I'm sorry about the questions. I'm just extremely nervous.

Generally stores will press charges at the time the cops are there but in most states they have up to a year to file. Dillard's may send you a letter for civil demand which means there is a dollar figure they charge for time and processing. Again usually they will tell you to expect a letter in the mail, if you don't get one in the next few weeks it may be over.....if so you got off easy dude!

And what about court or anything of the sort involving the police? Do you think anything will happen?

They have my address, name, phone number, but like I said, I received no court date, I am considered a minor, and the officer said I was very polite and cooperative.

Some states, counties or city's have different ways of dealing with juvi cases. They may send the reports to the juvenile prosecutor for review, if they feel it's needed they will file and you'll be notified by mail. Then again the cop probably would have said something along those lines or warned you it might be an option, if he didn't mention anything you might be in the clear.
