    Default Agreed Price Skyrocketed

My question involves malpractice by a lawyer in the state of:

When i first approached my lawyer for his expertise and estimated cost he
gave me a price. when court started he increased the price do to the length the trial was now going to take. I was not able to afford the new price so he suggested i use his less expensive student and he would show for the important days. I agreed. The expensive lawyer never showed for the important days (final arguments and sentencing)at the end of the trial i discussed a final cost with the student and we made a verbal agreement. After sentencing i agreed to pay the small remaining amount we agreed upon. That small amount somehow became a very large amount i did not agree upon and would not have agreed upon. I don't mind paying the agreed amount but don't want to pay the new much larger amount. What can i do?
