    Unhappy Civil Action Hearing Notice

My question involves collection proceedings in the State of: PA

Hello, I recently received a Civil Action Hearing Notice over a debt I had forgotten about.

In 2003, right after I graduated from college I purchased a computer from Dell, using their Financial Services. It appears I never finished paying it off and now (which has been sold to Asset Acceptance) they are suing me for $3,156 which must contain a lot of interest.

I've moved a lot for work (in fact, although I got this letter a week and a half ago I have since moved to Il for work), but I haven't received any notice about this ai can remember. I've been paying off debts from this time period over the last few years and will happily pay this one as well.

Can I contact the debt collector or their attorney and work out a payment plan?

What will happen if they pass a judgement against me? I don't even know what that means?

What if I can't make the court date in October since I live 8 hours away now?

    Do I need a lawyer?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated?

    Thanks!

    Yep.

that means that a court of law will decide if you owe the debt or not (lets assume that you owe it) if this happens, they can then get a wage garnishment against you. You want to avoid this unless of course it's not a legit debt.

It's likely they will get a default judgement against you, which means you lose.

I can't think of a time where this was a bad idea. At least consult one.

If you do work out a payment plan with the debt collector's attorney, be sure to get any agreement/payment plan in writing.
