    Default Security Clearances

How does someone go about getting an active security clearance? Google just has the same old, "You gotta have a clean record, be careful what you throw in the trash can, etc." Suppose an employer wants an active security clearance?
Assume the applicant has three DUI's. Also, assume he has a range of misdemeanors. You also have to take into consideration he served in the US Navy ended 2000, and he had a Secret while he was there (the legal troubles followed naval service).

Keep all of this in mind knowing the President--bafoon GWB--has had misdemeanors for the same basic thing, and obvious anecdotal evidence of cocaine-sniffing and illicit drug use. He has an active Top Secret.

Since GWB has a Top Secret clearance and zero character, one would think it would be effortless procedure for the person with the three DUI's to get just a Secret, right?

Sure. And if you get elected President, you'll easily get a security clearance just as easily.

Typically, the cases are decided on a case by case basis. However, I can tell you that multiple DUI's and misdemeanors shows a lack of basic character and sound judgement that will make your security clearance a long shot.

If you want to go the other route, you better hurry. There are only a couple of months left before the election.

Suppose every single misdemeanor was alcohol-related, and the applicant finished an intensive inpatient program?

Then those facts would be mitigated against a person that is an alcohol abuser lacking in pattern recognition skills.

I give you one chance in ten.
