My question involves criminal law for the state of: CA
I was told by a store manager at a bookstore chain that I was seen on the video footage removing a security sticker, and that I was hence banned from the store. They didn't all out say I shoplifted, but it seemed apparent that's what they thought, or had seen. I don't recall, but I have recently gone through a bad patch, with depression and stress, and I did a few times, to my embarrassment.
I didn't think they would ban me from other stores in the area, just that one, and others seemed to think so, too. I've gone in a few several times since this incident with no issues, til today. In one store I frequent, I was talked to, and told about the other store, and that I was going to be banned from that one, too. Plus all of them in the city. This really sucks. It's one of my favorite places to go.
I was told that the regional LP manager was in on this, too. And the regional manager passed on the information to the stores. They must suspect me of taking much more than one low priced item. Plus, I am extremely recognizable, which doesn't help me at all, obviously.
Is there any way of contacting a regional LP manager and trying to discuss this? Make restitution, and maybe get them to lift the ban, or make conditions where I can eventually return? I'm normally a responsible, and good customer, I just don't know where my head was at. I can't even remember the incident they claim I did, and have proof.
Is a ban normally for life?? Could I lay low for a year or two and then maybe try to see about becoming a customer again?
It's not like there's a lot of bookstores to choose from anymore. Is regional a whole city? Part of the state even?
