My question involves name change laws in the State of: Washington
I was unsure where to post this, as it concerns changing a birth certificate, but of a legal adult, not a child. My situation is a little complex so bear with me. Basically, I was born in Utah, and as such have my birth certificate from there. However, I have lived in Washington for the past 12 years. Now, it has come to my attnetion that my birth certificate is completely and utterly wrong; it has one name on it (My first), no last name, and several other minor mistakes.
The problem is, I don't have any real forms of identification, outside of old school IDs. What's the best way of going about fixing this whole mess I'm in? I was under the assumption that I should start with changing my birth certificate to the name I've been using for the whole of my life, and from there I can obtain my SS number, and so on, but I have no idea how to do that, or where to start. Another added problem is I don't get on with my parents very well, so their support is out of the question. I'm also 20, if that helps.
