My question involves traffic court in the State of: Michigan
I am a twenty year old female, I have been driving for four years without ever being pulled over previously until last Friday. One my way to my friend's house I made a left turn on street X then almost immediately entered a another turning lane to make a left turn from street X to street Z behind two cars. When immediately a cop pulled me over. Turns out the turning lane was for the opposite direction of traffic and the street I was trying to turn on, left turns are prohibited. The sign saying no left turn is small similar to a no parking sign. I needed to turn on that street and I was following the flow of traffic considering both cars in front of me were in the same lane, they ended up getting pulled over as well. The cop gave me a 257.647 prohibited turn ticket which yields two points. On monday I called the courts to fight my ticket.
Then the following Tuesday September 9th, I was on my way to class on US-131 after exiting a zone with cones and a reduced speed of 60 mph (which I did not notice) I was in the fast lane and there were cars next to me in the right lane. Soon after I exited the area with cones, I was pulled over by a cop(he was located outside the cone zone) sitting on the right side right before an underpass. I of course freaked out considering what happended the previous Friday. The cop said he clocked me going 78 then 80. Even though the speed limit is 70 usually he claimed it was reduced to 60. Since I was so panicked and upset I did not think to question the fact I had exited the area with cones and the current section I was in was not marked with cones nor as a contruction zone even though ahead of that area actual contruction was going on at the I-94 overpass. After I noticed the cop, I proceeded to the right lane and slowed down hoping I would not be pulled over and anyways I had to switch lanes because I needed to merge on I-94 which was about 600 ft from where I was pulled over. The cop ended up marking me for going 1-10 over despite me going 80mph which is indicated on my 257. 628ticket. After class, I called to fight my second ticket.
I am beside myself getting two tickets within four days equalling four points, considering I have never been pulled over or recieved any kind of ticket previously. I thought I could win the first ticket, considering there was an actual lane, the no turn sign was small and two other cars were turning ahead of me. But now I feel like I am screwed with the occurance of my second ticket. When I appear in court for both tickets will the each ticket be mentioned at the other's hearing? I am a poor college student who has about 45 dollars to my name and 115 dollars pending in tickets. My biggest worry now is my insurance, which skyrocket and my parents will kill me. What are my best options? Do I have any chance of beating both tickets? I cannot believe my past four days.
