My question involves criminal law for the state of: california
about an hour and a half ago i was caught shoplifting at a local grocery store. i was stopped by 2 store security officers while i was pretty much at my car door.
all they had to say was that they had seen me take something and i handed over my purse that contained the stolen merchandise and walked with them to the security office. figured i was caught so why make it worse by denying it or putting up a fight.
anyways, it's a first time offense and the stolen items only totalled 16 dollars and some change so the police weren't called in BUT i did get fingerprinted, photographed, and had to hand over my ID so they could get down my information. i was told that i MIGHT get a fine in the mail and that i was not allowed in that store or any of its sister stores for a year and that if i was seen in any of them that i could get arrested for trespassing.
then i signed the papers acknowledging that all the information on the papers was correct and that i understood that i could not enter any of the stores.
my questions about this are:
1 - does this mean that i will now have a criminal record?
2 - about how much should i expect the fine to be?
3 - will i have to appear for court?
4 - i JUST started a new job, will this effect me if i'm still in my 90 day employment probation?
i appreciate any input on this. thanks.
