Shoplifting Deferred 12 Month Sentence

My question involves criminal law for the state of: WA

Hi,

I was convicted of misdemeanor shoplifting three months ago or so. My sentence was a four-hour class, which I completed and turned my certificate in for, and I was also supposed to pay a fine monthly until the total fine was payed over the course of 1 year. And good behavior (no other charges) for one year. And then it's supposed to be taken off my record.

My question is: is the misdemeanor on my record until one year is up, or is it not on there until I "mess up"?

I am having an employer look up my record through the local police department (not a background checking agency). Any idea if they'll see anything, or if I'm clear? I have no problem explaining my mistake to my potential employer, just trying to clear my conscience of having to worry about someone bringing this up in the next week before I'm hired.

It's not clear if your conviction was entered, to be set aside at the end of the year, or if your conviction will not be entered if you successfully complete the program. In the former case you will have a conviction on your record; in the latter case your record will likely show the charge and that your disposition remains pending. I wasn't there with you in court, and states handle these things differently; if you really want to know what your record shows, consider getting a copy yourself or asking your employer to share what they find with you.
