Default Lies on a Web Page

My question involves defamation in the state of: Connecticut.

Ok, this may be long but I must rehash everything first!

I am an Independent Record Label owner. I have a partner with whom I am also a member of a musical group.

3 years ago before I met my partner, she was an Independent artist with loose friendships on the web with other artists. After she and I met though, those associations went by the way-side as both of our careers skyrocketed afterward.
One of the former friends, has a friend who has a Bebo.com webpage. On that page are the BIGGEST lies about me (calling me a pedophile) and my partner (saying she has aids). These are total lies, and we feel that not only is this young man damaging our personal reputations, but he is hurting our record label as well because the people he "entertains" on his page all know who we are and may even be fans (actually I know some are fans because they have created bebo accounts to discount these lies).
I have written bebo a nice but firm email explaining what is happening and how we would like to see this fixed asap. So far they havent done anything but its only been 2 days.
Is this illegal what this young man is doing to us? Do we have to stand for this?
By the way, my partner is in Britain as is the young man that is posting the lies. I live in Connecticut USA.

If the person is defaming you, trying to disrupt your business relationships, or both, consider talking to a lawyer about a possible defamation suit or seeking injunctive relief.

If you do sue this person, do they have any money with which to pay a judgment?
