My question involves paternity law for the State of: any state.
(I live in Canada so if you could just give me info according to whatever state YOU are in, that would be great. I fully understand it may or may not be correct for where I live)
Background info: the father of my child and I have never been in a relationship, never been married, never lived together.
The child and the father have also never lived together.
The child is 1 and has resided with me, the mother, his entire life.
The father is not listed on the Birth Certificate because he was not present at the child's birth and therefor could not sign the papers.
We are doing an at home paternity test. It is not court ordered, we have both agreed to do so. He wants to be listed on the Birth Certificate after the test is completed. What kind of rights would that entitle him to? I know that if he was on the BC, if i wanted to leave the country with the child I would have to have his permission. What else?
It is assumed that I have full guardianship since the child has lived with me for over a year.
