My daughter's friend was caught shoplifting at Kohl's and she was arrested. My daughter was accussed of shoplifting as well, however they searched her and she had no merchandise on her person, nor did she know her friend was stealing. Kohl's told her to leave and to never come back to the store. She received a letter from Kohl's for 175.00 for the cost of the merchandise. Can they do that since they found no merchandise and they let her go? Also, her name was in the newspaper as if she was arrested for shoplifting. Apparantly she will be receiving a citation in the mail from the police department as well. What are my daughter's options? Should we contact an attorney?
