My question involves an eviction in the state of: Illinois
My longtime friend moved in with me approximately 1 1/2 years ago after the death of my spouse. At lease renewal time he did not want to sign or be put on the lease, so the apartment lease is in my name only. He currently owes 2 1/2 months back rent and, I believe, has no intention of ever paying it, and intends to live here, free of charge, until I evict him. It is a sad situation, but it needs to be dealt with.
What steps do I need to take next?
Our contact is minimal as he is intentionally avoiding me; leaving before me and coming home after I am in bed at nite. The rare times I do see him he does not even speak, and if I try to initiate conversation he barely says a word then rushes to his room and does not come back out.
He has changed the locks on his door so I cannot get in. Do I have to physically hand him any eviction papers, or can I leave them taped to his door? This is a specific issue I have, as I am sure he knows what my intentions are, and is overtly ignoring me to avoid the inevitable.
What exactly do I have to do next? Thx.
