We have lived in our apartment complex since July 2000, and have lived in this apartment since August 2005. At the beginning of every lease, we have filled out an apartment inspection form, telling the landlord the state of affairs in the apartment and telling them what's wrong with it.

In November 2005, the apartment complex was sold to another company. Two weeks ago they sent out a memo stating that on December 19, 2005 there would be someone coming into our apartment to install new windows (only the first floor bedrooms) because they did not pass fire safety inspection. These windows have been in the apartments for 3 years, and we have had 3 fire safety inspections since they were installed. Needless to say, it's a big hassle in order to clear out my children's beds and things away from the windows, but we did it in order for the windows to be installed. We waited all day for them to come in and install the windows and they never came.

Today we got a knock on our door in the afternoon stating that they would be coming into install the windows in our apartment. I called and asked about how they changed the time, and they apologized and said that the windows would be installed today. So we again rearranged time to be here and moved stuff away from the windows (not trusting the workers unsupervised with our belongings). Again, they haven't come in to install the windows, and I know they are going to come knocking tomorrow to install them.

What are the legal rights to privacy in an apartment in Michigan? I was under the impression that we had to have 24 hours notice (at least) for us to let them into our apartment, and so far the time keeps changing.

They also sent us a note saying that they want to do a general inspection of our apartment between Dec. 21 and Jan. 6. Basically, I'm tired of having people trudge through my apartment and having my privacy interrupted more often than ever.

I just want them to stick to their schedule and get this over with.
